Life is what happens when you're doing other things

I thought I was searching for something. Something to fill a hole in my life. It's like a math problem. If you look long and hard enough, you will eventually find the proof.

But life isn't like a math problem. You can't just be more determined to find the important things in life. If you work hard enough and you want them badly enough you can get things like expensive cars and university degrees and a nice place to live. I think I've discovered, though, that you can't search for people. Friends, partners, lovers are not puzzles to be solved. But, when you least expect it people appear for you, old friends and new. I suppose that's because people have brains of their own.
